Horror Remakes: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

I (Dan) have only recently become a fan of horror movies, not that i never used to like them but just that i didn't have the means to watch them nor did i have the balls. As a young horror addict i have had remakes rammed won my throat at a young age (Not the only thing (I go to a catholic school full of horny priests)) without even watching the originals, although many stuck-up horror supremacist would look upon me as a mislead sheep, for me it is not entirely a bad thing...some remakes are just as good if not better than their predecessor.

So, here we go...

The Haunting - Original vs. Remake ................................................. ORIGINAL!

Let The Right One - Original vs. Remake...........................................REMAKE!
----Let Me In is a fantastic film with characters that i admire almost instantly

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Original vs. Remake....................... Tied
---- Fuck OFF - The remake is banging!

Halloween  - Original vs. Remake .....................................................ORIGINAL!

Psycho  - Original vs. Remake............................................................ORIGINAL!

Piranha  - Original vs. Remake............................................................REMAKE!

The Last House On The Left  - Original vs. Remake............................REMAKE!

Dawn Of Dead  - Original vs. Remake................................................REMAKE!
----The remake has great cinematography and great characters

Friday The 13th  - Original vs. Remake...............................................REMAKE!
---- I have no idea why the original is critically acclaimed....its bollocks

Nightmare On Elm Street  - Original vs. Remake...............................ORIGINAL!

The Amityville Horror  - Original vs. Remake....................................Tied
----Both are bollocks

The Hills Have Eyes  - Original vs. Remake.......................................REMAKE!

The Fly  - Original vs. Remake..............................................................REMAKE!

The House On Sorority Row  - Original vs. Remake............................REMAKE!

The Eye  - Original vs. Remake..............................................................ORIGINAL!

So here are my thoughts on many of the most recent and popular remakes...If you would like SOShorrors opinion on any other remakes just ask.

Atrocious - Movie Review - Jesus! Let there be light! - SICKorSHIT

IMDBs Synopsis  "April 4th of 2010, Quintanilla family was found murdered in their country side house. Police reported the existence of 37 hours of recorded evidence. "Atrocious" shows the real images of such evidence. Quintanilla family traveled to their old farm house in Sitges, where Christian and July investigated about the Legend of the Girl in the Garraf woods. Both of them used to record all day whatever they did. On the fifth day of their arrival they were found dead under strange circumstances. ATROCIOUS shows the last five days of life for Cristian Quintanilla and his siblings. It also shows the strange situations that they lived in those moments and which remain unexplained."

Okay, first of all Im just going to come out and say this, I'm a sucker for Found Footage movies! Rec, Paranormal Activity, The Last Exorcism, Grave Encounters, Blair Witch Project...the list goes on. I cant get enough of the genre!

There are many things i disliked about this film. The film starts out slow with what seems like a boring and pointless story-line about siblings going to their country house to stay. Unlike other found footage movies the characters in this have NO reason to film the adventure, usualy in the genre they are doing a documentary or investigating, but in this they are filming for the point of filming! I have another nit to pick with this film, I CANT SEE! Maybe it was a decisions by the filmmakers but during the night scenes in the maze i couldn't see anything! There were even a few jump scares that i couldn't even see due to the poor visibility.

Although there were many bad things in this film there were also some great parts. The idea was great, found footage in a maze, so many corners to turn and that gives great tension. The last 10 minutes were absolutely fantastic, I was really not expecting a movie like this to have a twist ending but it did (Don't worry, i wont spoil it for you!). This film was also genuinly creepy (well, the parts where you could actually see), there were an array of scares and tension building moments with a great pay off at the end.

Overall i would give this film a "B-" i thought it was a great experience and came full circle at the end. This movie gets the title "SICK!!!"
