A Serbian Film - Movie Review - "Newborn Porn?!?!?!" - SICKorSHIT - Dans Verdict

What films do you think of when I say the phrase "extreme cinema"? Ask the average film fan and he/she will say such titles as "The Human Centipede" or "The Last House On The Left". Ask a horror fan and they may say such titles as "Inside" or "Audition". But ask me, and I will say "A Serbian Film".

--- WARNING --- The content talked about is extremely disturbing!

Synopsis of A Serbian Film: In Serbia, the retired porn star Milos is married with his beloved wife Marija and they have a little son, Peter, that is their pride and joy. The family is facing financial difficulties, but out of the blue, Milos is contacted by the porn actress Lejla that offers him a job opportunity in an art film. Milos is introduced to the director Vukmir that offers a millionaire contract to Milos to act in a film. However, Vukmir neither show the screenplay nor tell the story to Milos. Milos discuss the proposal with Marija and he signs the contract. But sooner he finds that Vukmir and his crew are involved in sick snuff films of pedophilia, necrophilia and torture and there is no way back to him and maybe it is too late to protect his family. IMDB

On hearing about this sick twisted film I thought to myself "I must watch this!". After thinking that i then realized how disturbed I must be to want to watch a movie where a newborn baby is molested, i then proceeded to contemplate what my life had come to. After crying in my darkened room I then proceeded to attain the so called "Sickest film ever made" and shortly after sat down...waiting to be unsettled.

Before I get into the gritty nastiness of this movie I'm just going to build the tension by talking about the acting and cinematography. The acting was fantastic, Srdjan Todorovic did a great job as Milos, I have a lot of respect  him to take on such a dark and powerful role and I believe it takes a great actor to make people feel sorry for a character doing these disgusting deeds. The film centered around Milos so other actors didn't get the chance to display their acting abilities but from what I saw, both Sergej Trifunovic and Jelena Gavrilovic did a brilliant job.

For a film made for the soul purpose to shock, the film is shot beautifully, the film has a lot of atmosphere and has a beautiful sound track, the lighting and camera angles are amazing and almost puts you in a dream like state.

Now, here it comes, the ultimate question. Is this the most disturbing film ever made? My answer is .....most certainly...

Here is a run through of the 4 most graphic/disturbing scenes portrayed in this film...(here comes the funny part of this review)

Spoilers! Spoilers! Spoilers! Spoilers!

THE "NEWBORN BABY" SCENE = Bloody hell! This scene is bloody mental! This scene is definatly the most uncomfortable scene in movie history. We see a woman give birth to a young child, a cunt of a human being then proceeds to rape the baby. Simples!. Even though i felt completely disgusted i did chuckle when the man slaps the babies bottom with a cheeky look on his face....................yep, I'm going to hell.........

THE "UNDER THE BLANKET" SCENE = This scene really disturbed me. We witness Milos go into a room where we see two figures under white blankets (we do not know who are under these blankets). Milos and his brother then proceed to rape these to people. Milo then discovers its his very young son (who is approximately 5 years old) and his beloved wife! Milos is sodomizing his son! Milos's brother is raping his wife! You will not find a scene like this in an ordinary film! A Serbian Film is a truly extraordinary film! I don't know about you but the millisecond i realized i was raping my son i would withdraw my hopefully un-erect penis immediately! But Milos gives a few more thrusts then just stands there with his penis resting inside his son!!! WTF!!! I don't think Milos understood the  seriousness of the situation....to be fair....the past few days he had been up to his eyeballs on horse viagra. Shortly after comes the "cock in the eye socket scene"...
The Scene

THE "COCK IN THE EYE SOCKET" SCENE = This scene is fantastic, throughout the whole film we see poor Milos being pushed around by a complete wanker with one eye (serves him right!) and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Milos putting his huge warm throbbing blood covered boner in this guys eye, destroying his brain. They should defiantly make a superhero comic about Milos, i cant think of a witty enough name to call him, but The Adventures Of Bonerman seems to fit the part. "The Adventures Of Bonerman" trademark SICKorSHIT 2012

THE ENDING = This ending resembles such films as "The Strangers" or "The Mist" where it is extremely depressing (obviously this ending is the most extreme). Due to the not-so-happy ending, the family decide to all shoot themselves. Milos, his son and his wife (all dead) lay on a bed covered in blood, we see three men with a camera in the room with them, the next few words of dialogue literally made me scream out loud "Jesus Christ!".....the only way to find out what he says is to watch the film........only joking, I'm not that mean, he says..."Come on, start with the little one"...we then see one man unzip his trousers...YAY!

Phew! Now that grulling experience is over i will now give the film a score! I am going to score this film on three separate levels:

- 10/10 - for gore and how much it disturbed me

- 7/10 - for the film in general

- 10/10 - the fact its pushing cinema into a new extreme

Overall this movie is SICK in every sense of the bloody word! Many people who are easily offended will defiantly say this film is SHIT but this film isn't for them.

If you like fucked up shit, defiantly check out this film!

Drag Me To Hell - Movie Review - "The Evil Gypsy" - SICKorSHIT

In 2009 Evil Dead director Sam Raimi decided to create another horror film after being dormant in the horror industry for many years. Here is the synopsis and review...

"A loan officer who evicts an old woman from her home finds herself the recipient of a supernatural curse. Desperate, she turns to a seer to try and save her soul, while evil forces work to push her to a breaking point."

In 2009 I was just a casual movie fan, and on the release of this movie I heard rave reviews, phrases like "a modern classic" and "the scariest movie of the decade" filled my ears. I was only 11 at the time so had no interest nor any means of watching this movie. Now that I'm a horror movie fanatic I had to watch this film. As I got closer to watching this film I did some research into reviews and I was surprised to find that people detested this film, Joe and Tom of The House Of Horror Podcast said "It is the worst horror film ever made". This just sparked my interest even more!

This movie is a comedy first and a horror movie second. It contained some hilarious scenes that made me and my friends laugh out loud, some nasty scenes that made us cringe in disgust and some horrifying scenes that made us jump out of our seats.
YES! SHE IS HOT!

I thought the acting was fantastic with great performances by the fricking hot Alison Lohman and a great comedy performance by Justin Long. The old woman was a great enemy in this movie who had very unique aesthetics and was also very visually frightening.

I thought the plot was "okay" and could of been better, but I thought it was good enough and the execution kept me watching. The only bad thing about this movie is the sometimes stupid scenes, the eye in the cake was not necessary   and the arm down the throat was plain irrelevant.
Overall this movie is SICK and I really enjoyed the whole experience of watching it. I am giving this movie a B. I would only recommend this movie if you are looking for a good time, (not if you are looking or an insightful film into the philosophical elements of fascist regimes (or any thing clever)), NOT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY!

Woman In Black - Movie Review - "I just saw a ghost, time for some paperwork!" - SICKorSHIT - Dans Verdict

Plot "A young lawyer travels to a remote village where he discovers the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman is terrorizing the locals." imdb

When the trailer came out for this film I was pumped! Pumped beyond belief! The trailer was chilling and visually stunning with an incredibly spine tingling score that haunted my dreams (unfortunately that song wasn't even included in the fucking film!). To add more to my excitement, during buying my tickets I saw my friends coming out of the cinema and they were  telling me how terrifying this movie was. Needless to say...I was pumped!

Snazzy haircut

The film started off slowly and didn't become a horror film until about 35 minutes in. The story line up to that point seemed intensely generic and the acting was below par.

The acting in this film was not amazing but Daniel Radcliffe did seem to be more adult. It was going to be hard for him to deliver his first starring role outside the Harry Potter franchise but he seemed to pull it off. There wasn't many other characters in this dark gothic movie, so the whole movie rested on his shoulders.

The look of this movie was stunning. The setting was beautiful and so was the very old house. The dreamy sequences that took place back in the history of this film were haunting and magnificent to look at. The score was very creepy indeed with a throwback to old haunted house movies.

Okay, now I talk about why I hated this movie, the "scares". Throughout this film there were so many cheap "pop-up" or "jumpscares" that I couldn't count. Some were actually fairly scary and imprinted an image on my mind that I will never shake off.....and some were shit coming out of a tap and a bird flying at the camera....

The film became ridiculously repetitive. (SPOILERS) Daniel Radcliffe went to the village, the villiagers tell him to go away, he goes to the house, he sees many ghosts, he leaves the house, some child in the village dies, the villigars tell him to leave, he goes back to the house, sees a ghost, he leaves the house, a child in the village dies, the villiagers tell him to leave, he goes back to the house, sees a ghost, he leaves the house, the villiagers tell him to leave.......he leaves....he dies (END OF SPOILERS)

The scares are just too repetitive and you know they are coming. It was ridiculous, there was over probably 15 jumpscares in one film, AND HE DOESN'T EVEN REACT! Daniel Radcliffe sees a fricking ghost in a rocking chair, a woman in the front garden, fucking children rising from their graves....... then goes and does some paper work.....a normal day in the office!

I would probably still say this film is SICK but it gets to the point where I want to say its SHIT because of its obvious pop ups and its repetitve story line. The only thing saving this film from being SHIT is the set design, the few good scares, the cinematography and the atmosphere of the cinema I was in. I would give this movie a C+

SICKorSHIThorrors "SHIT list" - Blog - Flush the fackin toilet! - SICKorSHIT

I thought I might write a quick post about the SHITTEST FILMS EVER!!

I know I won't be covering all the shit films ever but I will be telling you about all the ones
that I have had the privilege to waste my time watching.

These films are not in order of shitness, the order is just random:

- Cherry Crush - this film is less scary than an episode of Oprah (actually Oprah is pretty
fucking scary)

- The Return - once again, jack shit happens, very boring, ballsack cunt fuck shit enough said

- Outcast - words can't describe the shitness of this film, the CGI monster is fucking
horrendous...

- Black Xmas - very fit cast, gory body biscuit scene (one of my favourites)...but ultimately a
shite film. This is probably the best film out of the shite list.

- Curfew - complete shit, approximately $1.50 was spent on this film...1/10

- The Breed - errrrrrrrrrrmmm...NO

- Boogeyman 2 - bullfuck...i'm scared of the boogeyman now knowing that he can make
such a shit film.

- Stay Alive - I'd rather die

- Boo - pretty shit film, not incredibly bad like the others, but it still goes on the list.

- Hatchet 2 - Pretty shit compared to it's predecessor..bad scenery, props, musical score
and acting...shit

- Final Destination 4 - more comedy than horror...fack off.

- Friday 13th (original) - shite, a classic more like a ballbag.

Captivity - Movie Review - Ballbag smoothies all round! - SICKorSHIT - Alexs Verdict

Hey Alex here; I was bored yesterday so I decided to watch a film that I had sitting in my dad's collection for a while, this film as you can tell by the title of this post is Captivity. I chose to watch captivity because it looked promising and Elisha Cuthbert is very fit indeed. at the time I had no idea of the storyline or how it would turn out, are these two films Sick or SHIT?...let the review commence (<<cheesy as fuck)
Is is wrong of me to think this is fricking hot?!?!?!

Before I get into the movie here's a quick background check for you                    (calm down......no spoilers)

"Jennifer Tree (Elisha Cuthbert), a young fashion model and cover girl, had captured the attention of photographers and for better or worse, the public at large. On an evening out alone, Jennifer is stalked and drugged. She wakes in a stupor to find herself captive and confined to a cell."

Okay, this movie sounds good so far....good looking girl, gets drugged, finds herself trapped...doesn't know where the fuck she is. Pretty good story going on here so far lets read on....(no spoilers yet)

"A series of metal bins and numbered lockers abruptly swing open in front of her. They contain personal items taken from her apartment. She is forced to view videotapes containing images of the victims that were tortured previous to her captivity as well as videotaped interviews she had given to the media in the past. Trapped, realising there is no way out, Jennifer pleads and screams to anyone that might hear her. During her confinement, she is subjected to various forms of psychological and sensory torture. She is forced to drink a blended mixture of an eye, ear and nose of a previous victim. Then, she is made to decide who dies within 30 seconds: herself or her dog, Suzy."

Ughh, I watched this film with my dad and at the moment where she had to drink that blended shit we both cringed...not the best scene to watch when your eating pizza.
Noiceee...we got fucked up gore, a mysterious killer, Elisha Cuthbert still looking as sexy as ever (even when she's having a ballbag smoothie)...good so far...by the way this is a bit more than a quarter through in the film.

Okay I want this to become a trend in most of our reviews, whenever there is a spoiler "alert" I will try to alert you in an "alerting" way....here goes...(it's kinda like an electric spoiler fence giving you a warning)

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Jennifer eventually finds she is not alone. A young man, Gary (Daniel Gillies), is being held captive in an adjoining cell. The two make contact and try to find out why they are being held. After a moment of consensual sex, Gary awakens to find Jennifer, who has been drugged once again. He takes out a key to an adjoining cell. Meanwhile, Gary's key opens a door into a house, revealing that Gary and his older brother Ben (Pruitt Taylor Vince) are actually the captors. Gary joins Ben in the kitchen where they make sushi. Gary tells Ben that he is falling in love with Jennifer. Ben strikes Gary and says "play them, don't play with them." Ben then puts something in the fridge. When he turns around Gary stabs him. Gary then watches the same tape of the woman lying on the bed that was shown earlier. The boy stabbing his mother is revealed to have been Gary looking at a smirking Ben.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

This isn't all the story because the whole synopsis is too long...thanks to IMDb for the story. So this film turned out pretty good and if you read the spoiler then when you watch the film the twist is kinda predictable, some of you might not see it coming but me and my dad did. I'll stop talking before I reveal anything, so I will give this movie a solid C+ which is  around a 6-7/10..which is good, I would recommend you watch this film if your bored at home, or your with a friend..but this film will not make you or your friend cringe that much at all; I think the ballbag smoothie really boosts this films credibility, its sounds like i'm joking but I seriously; many films are famous for one scene in particular. I feel that I remember many films for a certain scene I saw in it, the ballbag smoothie shall be deemed the "memorable scene in this film"

This film is NOT SHIT....but then again it is NOT SICK...therefore it is .......meh

As always thank you for reading this post

by the way I decided to name all our fans (if there are any) sluts...enjoy :)

The Innkeepers - Movie Review - "Whatever you do...DON'T go into the basement!" - SICKorSHIT - Dans Verdict

DAN'S VERDICT

So, here we go, a review of Ti West's 2011 film "The Innkeepers", here's the synopsis...

"During the final days at the Yankee Pedlar Inn, two employees determined to reveal the hotel's haunted past begin to experience disturbing events as old guests check in for a stay." IMDB

Going into this movie I had heard a lot of great things about the director Ti West, according to fellow sources his 2009 movie "The House Of The Devil" was a great throwback to 80's horror and was a very well-made horror film (unlike his other effort "Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever"). So I was highly intrigued to view this film, so, here's my verdict...

After the first 10 minutes of this movie I was in love. The set design was flawless, the characters were lovable and the comedy was in the foreground while the horror lingered in the distance waiting to pounce. One thing I adored about this flick was the modern sensibility, in the first few minutes there was a scare that me and my mates were very familiar with - "The Youtube pop-up!" - this was executed greatly and it was a lot of fun to watch. Another stab at horror was a moment where a unseen figure was behind someone and only one of the two characters could see the figure, usually we would see the character slowly turn his head, but this cliche was expertly dodged.

The lovely Sara Paxton...mmmmmm

The acting in this movie was hit or miss, at some points I felt convinced that these weren't character but real people and at some points it felt like I was watching a primary school rendition of 1408. The beautiful Sara Paxton played Claire (pictured on the right), I found this character very enjoyable to watch and she was a character that I could really relate to, her reactions didn't seemed forced, but at some point they felt tame and predictable. Luke was played by the very funny Pat Healy who reminded me of the British comedy icon Simon Pegg, he added great comic relief to an already funny film.

The scares in the film were scarce but still effective. WARNING: DO NOT WATCH THE TRAILER! The trailer gives away all the scares (apart from one). So I would not recommend watching if if you want to be scared and surprised. Is this film scary? i hear you ask, well, moderately. There are a few scary scenes that are total ineffective but there are many that linger and stay with you after viewing the movie (He's behind you!). I would like to say that I think the make-up depart did a great job, the face of the female ghost will now be burnt into my retinas for nights to come...THANK YOU!

The ending...Oh, the ending...what a tragic sight. I had heard the ending was not great, but i wasn't expecting it to be that shite! It was a complete let down and I don't understand how Ti West could let this happen, WHY TI !? WHY!? The ending unfortunately ruined this nearly great movie for me, a complete letdown...

I would give this film a C+. Overall, I think it was a fairly creepy haunted house film with some great  comedic moments but was letdown by its failed abortion of an ending. Dont get me wrong, this film is defiantly SICK but the ending was utter SHIT just like the french horror flick High Tension.

Hatchet 2 - Movie Review - How does it compare to its predecessor? - SICKorSHIT - Alexs Verdict

Hey, it's Alex, haven't done a post in a while and since Dan has been posting a shitload recently I thought why not write one now. Before I dive straight into the review I just wanted to say that my long history with horror films....(which isn't very long at all) has taught me that there are films that are so shit/cheesy/badly made/terrible music/crap acting/a lot of nudity/ludicrous make up for monsters and such- that you just want to watch them again and again for your own amusement. Hatchet 2 is the newest member on my list as one of these films.

Hatchet 2 is no match compared to the first hatchet film, yes I know Hatchet 2 is lower budget and yes I know that many limitation come with that for example, lower quality cinematography, scenery won't be as good, props won't be very polished and gore and blood looks cheap and fake. When I watched this film with Dan my fellow SoS partner I kept feeling the director.         Had rushed this film; with this movie all it seems to do is put mindless bits of gore here and there without really thinking much of it..I guess that's what this films all about. The first Hatchet has a solid story, Hatchet 2 talks about a curse at the beginning and then a load of hard looking guys join up together. You get your fair share of sexy ladies, fat rednecks and double barrels all over the place, you think your gonna see a film crammed with sex, nudity shotgun shells flying everywhere, girls screaming but all you get is a good start of a story following up to a bad end of a story. On twitter a post from the director of hatchet or sum shit like that uploaded a photo of a script paper entitle
 "Hatchet 3"

Get ready for  an amazingly comedic, gory slasher film (Hatchet)
Or

An incredibly ludicrous film which has as much potential as a ballbag (Hatchet 2)

In the first Hatchet, a guy and his friend want go on a spooky swamp boat ride/ tour thing and they're accompanied by two pornstars, a porn director (SPOILER- later on in the film you learn that he is a fake), an old couple, a sexy woman who is looking for her dad and brother because they have gone missing (Don't see why you can't just call the fucking police) and finally an annoying Japanese guy who is the tour guide (and really doesn't know what he is doing). This group of people is exactly the group of people you want in a slasher film, annoying people who you want to see get brutally killed by some monstrosity.
The cinematography of Hatchet is good, the music is NOT so good but it is made up for with the blood, guts and gore.

"Hey Guys! The asian stereotype worked soo
well in the first movie! Why no use me again?!"
This slasher film is close to me and Dans hearts for many reasons: We absolutely shat ourselves when viewing this beast of a film, the was unlike any we had ever seen before, and the characters were funny. This film is enjoyable, brutal and sickening to watch..and that's exactly why we love to watch it. The problem with Hatchet 2 is that you are pretty much watching the same film over again but instead the only difference is a bunch of red necks and weird black guy who thinks he's a magician are in the woods again looking for Victor Crowley. An Asian man again accompanies these men.............who is the brother of the other Asian man from the first film.......who is played by the same Asian man........who has the same personality as the other Asian man.......ITS THE SAME FUCKING MOTHERCUNTING ASIAN MAN! .......Asian man.........Asian men....>  Another bloody annoying thing in this turdish movie is Danielle Harris' eye brow! Jesus...........

The cinematography of Hatchet 2 is more or less the same as Hatchet, but the film in general just feels like it has been rushed. Also this film is far too silly, yes silly is good and funny but hatchet isn't Hobo with a shotgun, or Death proof....it's meant to be silly to a certain extent while still maintaining the standard of a slightly serious slasher film. I know I sound like a twat right now but trust me, watch Hatchet 2 and you will think the same way. Don't get me wrong, this film has it's funny and gory moments but the end product was SHIT.

Dan decided to start giving out grades to all the films we review now so here goes....F for fucking shite.....enough said...

HATCHET = SICK .... HATCHET 2 = SHIT

Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence - Movie Review - "Mouth To Anus!?!?!?!?" - SICKorSHIT - Dans Verdict

Martin is a mentally disturbed loner who lives with his mother in a bleak housing project. He works the night shift as a security guard in an equally grim and foreboding underground parking complex. To escape his dreary existence, Martin loses himself in the fantasy world of the cult horror film "The Human Centipede (First Sequence)", fetishizing the meticulous surgical skills of the gifted Dr. Heiter, whose knowledge of the human gastrointestinal system inspires Martin to attempt the unthinkable. -- IMDb Plot: The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence) (2011)

Amazing blu-ray cover art
In the months leading up to the release of this film I (Dan) was waiting with gritted teeth to be utterly disgusted....and thankfully after viewing this film i can say it lived up to my expectations (bearing in mind i watched the censored version.)

Just to set the record straight, this film is grim, cheese and crackers is it grim! Shitting in mouths, crushed babies, wanking with sandpaper, centipede invaded arses and an incestual pedophiliac father.....but its not all doom and gloom...there are vast amounts of female nudity to keep you happy.

The casting for the main character "Martin" was perfect, the actor has a eerie feel to him and has a disturbing presence; in the words of Alan Partridge "Scum, Subhuman scum!" From the advert never did i think that i would feel sympathy for this man! But i defiantly did when his failed abortion of a mother ripped up his 'ickle book!

There are many good points about this film. The gore is amazing, it blows Hostel and Saw out of the water. The black and white in this film took me abit of time to get used to but when I did I absolutely loved it, the decision to make it like this was a great idea by Tom Six who has really developed his film making skills with this film.

The ending leaves you cold and wanting more, it can be interpreted in many ways
--- SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS ---
it could be that Martin was dreaming it all and was indeed just fantasizing  about the whole event while masturbating OR it could be that he returned to his normal boring life and is still obsessed with The Human Centipede.
---END OF SPOILERS END OF SPOILERS---

I would recommend this film to people who love their gore BUT it is not a fun movie. This film is grim and is not exiting to watch. I would still recommend it to people but only if they want a depressing film.

I cannot wait for the next film in the trilogy!

Martyrs - Movie Review - Bloodily Brutally Sickening! - SICKorSHIT - Dans Verdict

After reviewing High Tension I (Daniel) decided to stick to the theme of French horror. Today I will be reviewing the abusive shocker by Pascal Lauger "Martyrs".

This is a film about revenge. A girl was abused for years as a minor and years later takes revenge. Her best friend (may be seen as lesbian lover) then has to dispose of the bodies and while doing so discovers a secret underground torture liar.

This film started off very slow with the horror elements in the background but then later came very apparent. The nature of this movie is highly disturbing and the movie has a very philisophical theme to it basing itself around "Martyrs".

The scenes of abuse throughout this movie are very distressing from the beating of a very young child to the brutal  feeding of crap to older women, this is a nice seg-way to the gore. The gore in this film is fantastic with some nail-biting scenes and some full-on shocker moments such as a skinned woman!.

The acting was phenomenal, some of the greatest acting in foreign horror since 2007s REC, not to mention the two actresses are visually stunning without having an overly sexual appeal like most female actors in horror.

Some people may be phased by this film being French, but in my opinion it doesn't matter as there is hardly any speech and when there is speech...it sounds fucking sexy in french!

The ending to this movie is amazing, I truly believe it to be a genius bit of film making. At first it seems like a simple ending but then when researched online I found the ending to be tremendous. (I will discuss what I found in the spoilers later)

This film gets a A- from me and I truly believe everyone should check it out, especially if you're a fan of modern foreign horror and you like a bit more thinking behind you're films.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS!!!

At the end of the movie we witness Madamoiselle shoot herself. There are many explanations for this and I have found my favorite. I like this one because it encapsulates the meaning of the word "Martyrs" and really hits me hard and makes me appriate the work put into this gem of a film! Here it is..

"Anna knows, just like the viewer knows, that discovering the existence of the afterlife is Mademoiselle's life work, so important to her and the cult that they are willing to do anything.
The beauty of the movie (which some viewers have completely missed), is that when Anna whispers to Mademoiselle, we think Mademoiselle wins. We think Mademoiselle gets what she wants. We think Mademoiselle is going to tell the glorious news to the gathering cult. And we think Anna has been reduced to nothing more than a used, mindless, unthinking tool.
But then comes the twist: "Keep doubting...bang!"
And we realize we were wrong.
Anna purposely lied to Mademoiselle and said there was no afterlife, she saw nothing. It is the one and only thing that Anna could do that would destroy Mademoiselle. Despite her pain throughout the ruined shell of her body, she retained enough strength and humanity in her mind to use the one and only chance she had.
Anna was the first to speak, and what she spoke convinced Mademoiselle that there was nothing, that her entire life was a futile, evil quest for nothing. Mademoiselle gave up, overcome with guilt and worthlessness, and killed herself.
The cult departs, defeated. Anna wins, the Martyr sacrificed and not one other girl will ever be tortured. With a simple whisper she destroyed her captors, finally avenged her friend, and saved countless girls from falling into the same fate. There is some foreshadowing of this in the very beginning of the movie, when young Anna tells the doctors she knows she is there to help Lucie, and to find the bad people who hurt her.
It is this unexpected display of strength, loyalty, endurance and sacrifice of Anna, a true martyr, that elevates the movie to a level far above the horror genre."
